Why Hire Piano Movers?

An upright weighs 300 to 800 pounds and a grand can pass 1,000. Most of that sits high and off to one side, so a piano tips easily on a ramp or a single step. Piano movers use a padded piano board, straps and enough hands to keep it level the whole way.

We’ve seen what happens when friends try it with a rented appliance dolly: a gouged floor, a cracked leg, a sore back. A local piano move usually costs less than fixing one of those.

How We Move a Piano

Same steps for every piano, whether it is a church grand or a spinet in a back bedroom. We moved 96 pianos last year.

  • Measure the Path

Doors, steps and turns get measured before the piano moves an inch.

  • Pad and Wrap

Thick pads over the whole case, lid closed and the keys covered.

  • Board and Strap

Grands go on their straight side on a piano board, legs and lyre off.

  • Place and Level

Set in the spot you pick, legs back on, checked for level. Not a scratch.

Types of Pianos We Move

Upright and Spinet Pianos

Most pianos in Odessa homes are uprights and spinets, usually in a living room that was laid out around them in 1975. They roll upright on a four-wheel dolly, strapped and padded on every side. Two movers on flat ground, three if there are steps. Done in an hour.

Baby Grand and Grand Pianos

Legs, pedal lyre and music stand come off first. Then the piano turns onto its straight side, onto a padded piano board, and gets strapped down tight. It stays on that board until it is inside the new room, where the legs go back on. We moved a 6-foot grand into a Midland living room last spring with two inches to spare at the door.

Church and School Pianos

Sanctuary grands, choir room uprights, band hall pianos. We book church moves around Sunday and school moves around the bell schedule, and we can carry several pianos in one trip when a congregation or a campus is relocating.

Organs and Digital Pianos

Home organs and heavy digital pianos move the same careful way. Digital models get their own box or padded wrap for the electronics.

Piano Care After a Move

Give the piano a week or two in its new room before the tuner comes. West Texas air is dry, and a piano that moves from a humid room to a dry one needs time to settle. In our experience the worst spots are next to the AC vent, the fireplace or a window with afternoon sun.

Piano Moving FAQs

Will my piano need tuning after the move?

Usually, but not because of the trip. Temperature and humidity changes between rooms shift the tuning. Let the piano sit about two weeks in its new spot, then call the tuner. Keeping it level on the move protects the action and the case, which is the part we control.

Can you move a piano up stairs?

Yes. Most Odessa houses have two or three front steps, and we handle those with a ramp or a board. A full flight of stairs gets extra movers and a plan for every turn before we start. Tell us the number of steps when you call, so the quote is right the first time.

Do you move pianos without a whole-house move?

Yes. We move single pianos across town, out of an estate, into a church or into storage. A one-piano local move takes one to two hours with the right crew and gear, and it is one of our most common small jobs.

Every Move Includes

  • A written quote before the truck rolls
  • Pads, shrink wrap and straps on every load
  • Claims handled by our own office

What our customers say…

Your Move Is Our Priority

  • “My husband works a 14 on, 14 off schedule out of Pecos, so I booked the whole move from my phone. They packed the kitchen the day before and had us in the new place in Midland before he got home. Not one dish broken.”
    Marisol R.Odessa to Midland
  • “Three guys, one truck, a 4 bedroom brick house off Grandview and my mother’s upright piano. Wrapped everything, strapped it like they meant it and were done by 3. The bill matched the quote to the dollar.”
    Dale W.Odessa
  • “Our closing got pushed back two weeks. They kept our whole house in their warehouse and delivered it out to Gardendale the day we got the keys. Easy.”
